The
knife forums are full of posts with people asking what
knife people recommend. Of course everyone has there
own opinion as well as drawers full of knives they had
to have but don't carry anymore. I am no different
except now my kids take my knives.
For the last three years or so I have been carrying
the Al
Mar SERE 2000 as my Utility Folder.
Upon receiving the SERE the first thing I noticed was
that more so than any other production folder I have
handled, it had the feel of a custom knife. The fit
and finish of the SERE is incredible.
I found the VG10 blade easy to sharpen as well as capable
of holding an edge. Since this knife typically rides
in my rear strong side pocket I have come to appreciate
the top mounted pocket clip. You get tired of picking
you folder up out of your car seat.
Even worse if you end up loosing it. This is also great
those in the military who where trousers with covered
pockets. This pocket clip allows the knife to sit flush
unlike most other folders. The action could not be any
smoother; many people have assumed it was an auto of
assisted opener.
At 6 ounces and a total length of 8.5 inches with a
3.6-inch blade the SERE is not a small knife. Although
I don't have one yet there is a mini SERE available.
The full-size sere is not at all uncomfortable to carry
and handles well.
The SERE has been able to handle every thing I have
thrown at it from opening mail, cutting parachute cord
to cutting pizza and seatbelts (I have only had to cut
two in my career and both were done with the SERE.
If you are in need of a great high quality utility folder
try the SERE. I doubt you will be disappointed.
